Commercial Kitchen Hood Services We Provide

NFPA 96 Hood Cleaning

Certified commercial kitchen hood and grease duct cleaning throughout the DC-MD-VA region. Every cleaning visit covers the full hood system: canopy interior, baffle filters, plenum, grease duct from hood collar to rooftop fan discharge, and the rooftop fan including fan wheel, housing, and grease collection basin. All work produces an NFPA 96 certificate of cleaning, before-and-after photo documentation, and a written field report delivered digitally the same night as the service visit. Recurring schedules at quarterly, semi-annual, and annual intervals aligned to NFPA 96 Table 11.4 required frequencies. Service in all Maryland counties, all Northern Virginia jurisdictions, and all eight DC wards.

Hood Installation

Complete commercial kitchen hood installation for new restaurant builds, kitchen equipment reconfigurations, and hood replacement projects. We supply and install Type I exhaust hoods for grease-producing cooking equipment including fryers, griddles, char-broilers, open burner ranges, and wok stations. We also install Type II hoods for non-grease applications including dishwashers, combi ovens, and steamers. Grease duct is all-welded to NFPA 96 Chapter 5 specifications with liquid-tight seams and appropriate gauge stainless steel. Rooftop upblast fans installed with properly flashed curb penetrations. Make-up air systems included for balanced exhaust design. Permit management for all three jurisdictions.

Exhaust Fan Service

Rooftop exhaust fan repair, maintenance, and replacement for commercial kitchens throughout DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Fan inspection is included at every NFPA 96 cleaning visit at no additional charge. Emergency fan repair is available 24/7 for kitchen ventilation failures that require immediate response — a failed exhaust fan means a kitchen that cannot operate safely, and we treat those calls as top priority. We stock common drive belts, capacitors, and motor starters for first-visit repair of the most frequent fan failure modes, and we maintain relationships with equipment suppliers for less common parts. Fan replacement including crane-assisted replacement for large fan units or constrained rooftop access buildings.

Grease Duct Repair & Access Panels

Grease duct repair services for cracks, failed welds, and corrosion deficiencies identified during NFPA 96 cleaning inspections or fire authority inspection visits. Access panel installation at required duct locations — mandatory at every 12-foot maximum horizontal interval and at each change of direction for NFPA 96 cleaning compliance. Many older restaurant buildings throughout DC, Maryland, and Virginia have grease duct systems without adequate access panels, preventing compliant cleaning of the full duct length. We install panels at all required locations to bring the system into cleaning compliance and resolve fire inspection violations. Permit management included where required for duct repair scope.

NFPA 96 Cleaning Frequency Requirements

NFPA 96 Table 11.4 establishes the required minimum cleaning frequency for commercial kitchen exhaust systems based on cooking equipment type and operating volume. These are minimum frequencies — actual grease loading observed during service visits may warrant more frequent cleaning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Express Kitchen Hoods operate in all three jurisdictions with the same team?

Yes. We are a single company serving Maryland, Virginia, and Washington DC with the same trained and certified crew members. Our technicians are fully familiar with the NFPA 96 enforcement nuances of each jurisdiction — DC FEMS requirements differ slightly from Montgomery County MCFRS requirements and from Fairfax County fire authority requirements. Having one company serve all three means your certificate documentation, scheduling, and service quality are consistent across all your locations regardless of jurisdiction.

Can you handle multi-location restaurant groups that span all three states?

Yes — multi-location restaurant groups and corporate accounts spanning the DC-MD-VA region are some of our most valued clients. We can coordinate service schedules across all your locations, maintain a centralized certificate archive for your entire portfolio, and issue consolidated compliance reporting useful for corporate risk management. Contact us at (800) 200-2134 to discuss a custom service agreement for your restaurant group.
